Close Up of Hedgehog Quills

Posted by on Mar 16, 2013 in Photos | 35 Comments

This is a close up of hedgehog quills. Me and my wife own a hedgehog named Quilliam and he is an amazing animal. It was hard to keep him still enough to get this picture, but here it is. Its amazing how many of these he has on his back and that he can control them for means of defense. These feel like, what I imagine, acupuncture would feel like. I have never experienced bleeding or anything from handling him, but I can feel where the quill has gone into my skin.

He is a really incredible critter! That is for sure!

Very cool photo. How on earth did you happen to adopt a hedgehog?

    • http://www.ryanhermann.com/ Ryan

We got him in a local pet shop. There are also breeders that you can get them through. However, there are some states that it is illegal to own a hedgehog. Not quite sure why.

Ryan – great close up. Unfortunately I am too skittish to really look at your other close up photos of the moth, lizard, and spider. I’ve no doubt they’re fantastic – for those who are not squeamish lol.

By the way – thanks for stopping by my site and liking my poem.

Thank you, hopefully there will be more photos that you can look at in the future.

Ok, 1. Cool shot. 2. You own a hedgehog?? How does that happen? And 3. Love the name Quilliam! Thanks for visiting my blog so I would know where to come find your great photos. Happy blogging!

They are quite sharp. They can easily be felt through two layers of clothes as well.

  • Mag’s Corner

Great picture but my those look sharp!

They are! Have to be mindful while handling him.

My favorite Beatrix Potter story has always been The Tale of Mrs. Tiggy-Winkle, the sweet hedgehog laundress. “Her nose went sniffle, sniffle, snuffle and her eyes went twinkle, twinkle and she took another hot iron from the fire.”

Ive never heard of that story before. Just looked it up and it seems to be from quite awhile ago. First published in 1905. Thanks for sharing!

And this is just a very small portion of his back!

It is amazing what exists in this world! This is such a small part of his back too.

I like the hedgehog picture. I have an iPhone 4S and was thinking about purchasing those clips from the photojojo website. How do you like the macro clip? Does it seem to make a huge difference?

    • http://www.ryanhermann.com Ryan Hermann

      Glad you like the photo.

I was using the Ollo Clip for iPhone 4 and then had to sell it when I got the iPhone 5 because the form factor is smaller than the iPhone 4/4S(Ollo Clip for iPhone 4/4S is about $55). I bought an Ollo Clip ($70 on amazon) for the iPhone 5 and it fits just as good as the one did for the iPhone 4. There are 3 lenses: Macro, Wide Angle, and Fisheye. The Macro is a huge improvement on the camera. There is no way I could get even close to taking the kind of photos I have with the Macro lens.

      Hope that helps!

The Ollo Clip makes a huge difference! I am working on a product review right now for it and hope to have it up this Friday. Check back for it. I will be providing examples as well. Thanks!

love can be prickly, eh? Incredible how sharp the ends are!

    • http://www.ryanhermann.com Ryan Hermann

      haha yes it is!
They can easily find their way through your shirt and into your skin. It doesnt hurt, but can irritate your skin.
He is a really cool animal!

    • http://www.ryanhermann.com/ Ryan

haha yea it is incredible how fine the ends are! Can feel them in the skin, but it doesnt seem to break it.
